Dalton-Whitfield

Community Band

The Dalton/Whitfield Community Band was created to provide an opportunity for high quality, recreational music-making for adults with musical experience in Dalton, Georgia and the surrounding area. On November 13, 2012, a group 32 instrumentalists gathered in the band room at Northwest Whitfield High School for the first rehearsal of Dalton’s own community concert band. Among those at that first rehearsal were a few seasoned professional musicians, several school band directors, high school students, and some intrepid souls who hadn’t played their instruments in years or in some cases decades.

From that uncertain start, a band has emerged that now numbers nearly 60 players, all of whom rehearse weekly with the band, preparing for performances to come. The band gave its first concert on April 15, 2013, for an enthusiastic audience of about 300 people, followed that with a summer performance at Dalton's beautiful Heritage Park, and celebrated the first anniversary of its existence in November 2013 with a rich and varied program of American band music.

Want to join us for the next concert? Membership is open to musicians beyond high school age who have some previous experience on standard band instruments. High school students may be admitted with a written recommendation from their band director and acceptance by the steering committee.
